General
Disc Golf Potential would not exist without Disc Golf Metrix ?

Disc Golf Metrix offers many powerful features for tournament management and organization.
It also allows you to compile all your individual competition or practice results. DgPotential uses its data to allow a player to analyse its results in detail and estimate his potential on different courses.
DgPotential collects also your results in PDGA database to provide you with other analyse like comparison of ratings.

How do I register in DgPotential?

The first time you open the website, you are directed to a page for creating your account from two pieces of information: your Disc Golf Metrix ID number and your personal integration code allowing the application to connect to your results in competition and practice.

Whats the purpose of this application

DgPotential connects to Discgolmetrix to retrieve your competition and practice results.

From this data, a Dashboard presents different graphs of your Ratings and the number of competitions and courses you have completed.

The ‘Courses’ feature enables you to thoroughly analyze your performance on previously played courses and estimates your theoretical potential. This estimation is based on various factors such as course parameters, your average scores on the course, and results from other courses. It applies to both your played courses registered on Disc Golf Metrix and those you haven’t played yet.

Defining Personal Field Parameters

How are potential scores calculated?

Based on the hole’s distance, the specific characteristics of the terrain, and historical data from all courses with known hole lengths, we estimate the number of strokes you would need to complete a hole without missing your putt within your accurate putting distance. This provides a theoretical result that solely considers the distance, without factoring in potential challenges such as dog legs, mandos, obstacles, or others. However, we also offer a weighted calculation that takes into account the difficulty level as determined by the average scores of players on the course.

We then apply a weighting calculated according to the average achieved by all the players on each hole. This average is retrieved from Discgolmetrix. We establish three types of weightings: TOP, MEDIUM, BAD depending on whether we played more or less well.

We have four different metrics for evaluating a disc golf player's performance:

  • 1. PROBABLE: This metric takes the probability of a player's performance on each hole for all rounds played on the same course. It is unclear what you mean by "probability" here, but it sounds like you are trying to model the player's expected score on each hole based on their past performance.
  • 2. POTENTIAL: This metric takes the maximum distance potential for the player. This could mean the maximum distance the player can hit a ball, or the maximum distance the player has hit a ball in the past. Either way, it is a measure of the player's raw power.
  • 3. GOOD: This metric takes the linear regression between the distance of each hole and the player's performance calculated from each round played on every course for this player. This is a measure of the player's overall skill and consistency.
  • 4. TOP and BAD: These are not separate metrics, but rather adjustments to the GOOD metric. TOP is GOOD minus one standard deviation, while BAD is GOOD plus one standard deviation. This means that TOP represents the player's performance if they are having a better-than-average day, while BAD represents their performance if they are having a worse-than-average day.

Overall, these metrics provide different perspectives on a player's performance. PROBABLE and GOOD are both measures of consistency, but they use different methods to evaluate it. POTENTIAL is a measure of raw power, while TOP and BAD provide a range of possible outcomes based on the player's typical performance.

You can compare your results with the best real score, REAL BEST SCORE, and another potential score calculated by taking into account the best result on each hole. BEST SHOTS SCORE
